I am a Family Medicine Physician, Professional Life Coach, Wife, Sister, Daughter, Friend, and Dog Mom.
Like many of you who also wear multiple hats, I found myself struggling to find balance within the daily chaos of life. I was dealing with unhealthy stress levels and a non-existent work-life balance. I began to realize that although I thought I had “everything I ever wanted,” stress kept me from feeling happy. All I could feel was stress weighing on my shoulders day in and day out. I knew that something had to change but I had no idea where or how to start. Fortunately, I was given the opportunity to work with a life coach and will be forever grateful, as she truly changed my life!
My amazing coach helped me realize that I had the power to change all along. I just had to make decisions, set boundaries, and hold myself accountable. She guided me as I changed the way I approached different tasks, different people, and even how I processed my own emotions. Within a few months, these small changes began adding up and my entire world completely transformed. I was no longer spending my nights and weekends finishing work; I was able to prioritize my personal well-being. I created a work-life balance that I never dreamt was possible and honestly, I began feeling like myself again. I realized that by putting myself first, I was able to show up better for everyone around me – I became a better doctor, a better friend, a better wife… I was a better version of me.
As a physician, I have taken care of thousands of women and almost all of them were dealing with the same frustrations: there’s not enough time, I’m being pulled in too many directions, I have to put everyone else first, there’s no way out of this stress. I used to sympathize with them and say ‘just hang in there’ but after learning how to conquer those same frustrations of defeat and overwhelm myself, I knew I could do so much more for them.
I became a professional certified life coach and decided to focus more of my time to helping women conquer our biggest obstacles: our own minds. I created Carpenter Coaching and the Conquering The Female Brain Course in early 2023. Since then, I have been learning and growing both personally and professionally. I hope to help as many women as possible learn to conquer today’s stressful world and become the absolute best versions of themselves!
I also started working with fellow physicians, not only focusing on stress and time management but also tackling the daily stressors we face as physicians: charting and inbasket fatigue, office politics, difficult patients, etc. I’m proof that a healthy work-life balance as a physician is possible.
